Call Ms. Thevenin at 301-454-0991 MONDAY please. The earliest preparation for the study of ballet begins with one hour classes, once a week for 5 year olds and above.

The students are introduced to the concepts of basic movements, pliés, m tondus, leaps, arms and fee positions, jumbs, turns and various ballet movements, and are made aware of music and rhythm. Exercises for building strength and coordination are offered in a nurturing atmosphere. As with all other lessons in the school, parents of children under 12 are expected to attend the class to observe, so that they can

  • see what is required of their child for that week,

  • see how their child(ren) is(are) doing in the class, in

  • work with their child(ren) at home on a daily basis in preparation for the next class.

Students gradually learn the disciplines required in the DANCE studio. The classes are also aimed towards building physical strength, correct posture, and flexibility. Furthermore, they aim to develop self-discipline, attention span, and response to rhythm and musical patterns.

Although your commitment to learn to dance will demand concentration, dedication and time, you will be constantly surrounded by artistic, cheerful people who will make your instruction at Ottley Music School a most pleasurable and rewarding experience. Beyond instruction, dance opens a wide spectrum of social settings in which friendships are forged and dreams come true. Dancers possess an aura of self-confidence and an ability to enjoy themselves more in public settings. Their entire mental outlook takes on a renewed sense of creativity, motivation and energy.  They will participate in exercises for building strength and coordination, and an awarenet of music and rhythm.  All concepts are taught in a nurturing atmosphere at the Ottley Music School.

Dance is included in all summer programs.  Check out some of the choreography of a former dance teacher, Mia Athey over the last few years.

Appropriate attire and costumes will be required and information will be given at the beginning of each semester.  Students will also have opportunity to perform in monthly recitals.
