DANCE--Ballet, Jazz & Tap

The earliest preparation for the study of ballet begins with one hour classes, once a week for 5 year olds and above. The students are introduced to the concepts of basic movements, pliés, m tondus, leaps, arms and fee positions, jumbs, turns and various ballet movements, and are made aware of music and rhythm. Exercises for building strength and coordination are offered in a nurturing atmosphere. As with all other lessons in the school, parents of children under 12 are expected to attend the class to observe, so that they can

  • see what is required of their child for that week,
  • see how their child(ren) is(are) doing in the class, in
  • work with their child(ren) at home on a daily basis in preparation for the next class.

Students gradually learn the disciplines required in the ballet studio. The classes are also aimed towards building physical strength, correct posture, and flexibility. Furthermore, they aim to develop self-discipline, attention span, and response to rhythm and musical patterns.
Although your commitment to learn to dance will demand concentration, dedication and time, you will be constantly surrounded by artistic, cheerful people who will make your instruction at Ottley Music School a most pleasurable and rewarding experience. Beyond instruction, dance opens a wide spectrum of social settings in which friendships are forged and dreams come true. Dancers possess an aura of self-confidence and an ability to enjoy themselves more in public settings. Their entire mental outlook takes on a renewed sense of creativity, motivation and energy.  In the second term, afterthe basics of ballet are mastered, they will be introduced to jazz and tap classes.  Come land let your children learn one of the most popular dance styles in history.  Students will learn to express their unique style and originality through the art of jazz dance.  They will be introduced to the concepts of basic movements such as ball changes, jazz walks, leaps head rolls, fan kicks, jazz squares, pivot turns, including various ballet movements, and much more.  Not only will they learn fancy footwork, they will receive an historical background of jazz dance to further their comprehension.  They will participate in exercises for building strength and coordination, and an awarenet of music and rhythm.  All concepts are taught in a nurturing atmosphere at the Ottley Music School.

Dance is included in all summer programs.  Check out some in the last few years.
