These 3-week institutes are open to participants from anywhere on the globe. OMS does not offer lodging nor meals, but is open to those who which to attend. Besides music, there are daily exercises at the beginning of the day Students who have attended over the past 8 years have come from the local area of Maryland, District of Columbia, and Northern Virginia. Students have also attended from other states in the USA such as New York, New Jersey, Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, and California, and from overseas from Egypt and various other African countries, China, Italy, Trinidad and Tobago, and from the Virgin Islands of the Caribbean. STEEL DRUMS & HARP playing in each camp GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CAMPS/INSTITUTES Hours, 8:30 am through 4:30 pm M-F, Recitals Friday of last week of each camp or institute, recitals during the summer sessions are from 5:30-7:30 pm.6:00-9:00 pm M-Th, 6:00-7:30 pm Fridays. All students will experience a well-rounded view of music while learning or building on and expanding their already acquired skills on
- piano,
- voice and drama,
- strings (violin, viola, cello, bass, guitars, harp
- woodwinds (flute, clarinet, saxophones, oboe, bassoon,
- brasses (trumpet, trombone, French horn, Euphonium,
- steel drum (an introduction)
- body movement (physical exercise, dance),
- private lessons on their major instruments and voice,
- chamber ensemble or jazz ensemble or chamber orchestra, choir.
- music theory, ear-training, sight reading
- music history in Black and White and
- camper’s own genealogy, biological and/or environmental, “from where did your musical ability come?"
Students will also enjoy on or off-site professional performances to enhance their overall camp experience!
Students will present their own “live concert” performance at the end of each week, at 5:30-7:00 pm.
Registration is $150 first person in the family, $140 second, and $130 for each additional in the same household. This includes books, music, camp materials, 1 uniform T-shirt (which must be worn daily during the summer camp or institute). Camp fee is $225 for the first week you attend, $190 each additional week.
SUMMER PRIVATE LESSONS You can choose to register for how many weeks you are in town, 4 weeks, 5 weeks, 6 weeks, 7 weeks or all 8 weeks. All books and materials for lessons are paid for separately and are not included in the tuition. - $35 registration which includes attending the entire 2012-2013 school year.
- $40.00 per 30-minute private lesson each instrument, theory/composition
- $60.00 per 45-minute private lesson each instrument, theory/composition
- $80.00 per 60-minute private lesson each instrument, theory/composition
- $35.00 for the Summer term Recital fee, no matter how long you stay within that session.
